Trauma / Tension Release Exercises (TRE) is a modality that was developed by Dr. Berceli - a social worker, massage therapist and field traumatologist. He lived and worked in war-torn countries where he noticed how the body contracts during times of stress. This is related to the freeze response of the nervous system. The major muscles involved are in the pelvis and legs.
The exercises we use in TRE focus on the gentle tensing and stretching of these muscle groups. Once they have become gently fatigued, tremors begin to happen in the body. This vibration is a natural discharge mechanism that allows the body to release frozen energy. We refer to them as Therapeutic Tremors.
